RIA celebrates anniversary with interschool competition

RIYADH: The Riyadh Indian Association (RIA), an Indian community group, celebrated its 16th anniversary by organizing an interschool competition, RIA Faber Castell Impressions 2016, which was inaugurated by Indian diplomat Anil Nautyal.
Nautyal, in his inaugural speech, praised RIA for carrying out humanitarian work among the Indian community.
The function held recently was presided over by newly elected president Abdullah Shaikh.
RIA member Mohamed Iqbal, in the welcoming address, described the work of the group among the community, and Faber Castell’s expending support to organize the interschool competition.
George Jacob, newly elected secretary of RIA, proposed a vote of thanks.
Earlier, an interschool drawing and painting competition for Indian community schools was organized in which 600 online pre-registered children participated in four categories, KG, sub-juniors, juniors and seniors.
The KG section winners were first prize, Diya Prasanth (Al-Yasmin International School); second prize, Harsha Shiju (International Indian Public School); and third prize, Syeda Fathima (International Indian Public School). Winners in sub-junior groups include first prize, Edwin Denny Emmatty (Yara International School); second prize, Sheza Fathima (Modern International School); and third prize, Fathima Bathool Sathakathulla (Al-Yasmin International School).
The winners for the junior section include first prize, Adithyan Sunikumar (International Indian School); second prize, Rohit Prasanth (Al Yasmin International School); and third prize Summaiya Sami Syeda (International Indian Public School). Winners among seniors include first prize, Anshima Fathima (International Indian Public School); second prize, Sahla Navaz (International Indian Public School); and third prize, Aswin Sivaprasad (Yara International School).
Due to the huge participation and to encourage schoolchildren, consolation prizes were also given in each category.
The anniversary was also marked with a cultural fest as IDEA star singer Varun J. Thilak performed at the event along with the children.
