Amal Al-Goblan: For breezy, chic kaftans

Amal Al-Goblan’s trendy collection has hit the Saudi fashion scene by storm, bringing back casual chic in a way only Amal’s line, Dolls n Skulls, can do. With her previous line, it was all about comfort and style, the pattern is surely no different. Dolls n Skulls is expanding and has found success amongst many who understand comfortable chic and flaunt it effortlessly. The Fall/Winter line is set to launch this upcoming September and with the holy month of Ramadan among us, the young designer has launched a line special for Ramadan, separate from her Dolls n Skulls line.
With the concept in place, the designer behind the brand seeks to add her comfortable chic to this Ramadan special launch. The Ramadan kaftans and soft loose fabrics all with an airy feel and pastel colors are a first for the designer but surely not the last due to high demand before the launch in Jeddah’s Bizat Al-Reeh Bazar in Al-Harthy Center. The colors range from light grey capes and thobes to mint green kaftans with white sequins to candy colored collars and sleeves. The designer chose the lightest of fabrics to suit the summer months this Ramadan and these can be worn for special occasions or simply dressed down gatherings. The designer stuck to her comfortable concept, something different from other designers who might go all out and turn pieces of kaftans and thobes into crazy loud pieces difficult to comprehend at times. The choice to have a Ramadan line wasn’t difficult for Amal but took a while to create because it was different from what she knows. It became easier once the colors and sequins were chosen. The choice to divert from her Dolls n Skulls became evident in the thobes and capes that went on display in the Bizat Al-Reeh Bazar.
“I would never create a piece without putting under consideration the amount of comfort one must have wearing it. I design pieces that I see myself wearing. The style can never be too complicated for comfort and this line was a chance for me to see where my imagination can go with regard to the style of fashion I’m interested in,” said Amal.
The official launch of the Fall/Winter ‘14 collection is set for September, where the designer chose black to be the basic color for most of the collection. The black jerseys, dresses, shorts and pants are all basic black. Dolls n Skulls’ still finds comfort in basic black. The combination of jerseys with leather, neon and fishnet has set a new standard for basic black. The last collection had a lot of a hip hop feel to them, this collection is more edgy/sporty chic.
“I chose black for the Fall/Winter ‘14 line because I have a weird love relationship with the color, and the seasons of F/W are colder and somehow black is the most suitable color code. I have more basic pieces in my line this time around but I found an interesting twist of neon to add as well as leather to give it more of an edge.”
The young designer has many plans for her line, especially since she found an audience that understands and appreciates her style of choice. The line is available on her website and customers are able to start ordering her pieces that will be set for delivery in September.
