Midhnab, a small city some 58 km from Buraidah in Qassim and 289 km north of the capital, promises to be a major tourist attraction in the region drawing large numbers of visitors on weekends owing to the developmental projects undertaken by the government.
“The development of Midhnab Park started only last year but it already has its share of visitors from the city itself and nearby towns and cities on weekends,” said Bhernie Narceda, a Filipino community leader in Buraidah.
With a population of only 29,210 Midhnab also has other natural attractions such as the Old town and Nufud Alsa’afeeq.
Developing Midhnab Park into a tourist spot is in line with the Kingdom’s aim to promote tourism countrywide and create job opportunities for young Saudi men and women.
As part of the project, a plan has been drawn up to improve and beautify the entrance to the city. Bidders have been invited to offer proposals for the project’s implementation.
“The park has separate sections for singles and families. There are also various amenities for children besides restrooms for the visitors’ convenience. What’s more, entrance is free,” Yusoph Lubid, an officer of the Samahan ng mga Manggagawa sa Gassim (SAMPIGA), or Association of Filipino Workers in Qassim, said.
One attraction of Midhnab Park is the fact that it’s located in an elevated area, enabling “visitors to have a euphoric view of the city dotted with buildings, houses and clumps of green trees in the distance.”
“One can also visit the park in the evening because of the bright spotlights enabling one to see even the trees in the surrounding areas,” added Arnold G. Pineda, who works at the Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances Corp. (SPIMACO).
He added that he had visited Midhnab Park twice and he could not help but express admiration for the place.
