OFBL 5th Conference Evening Division games kick off

The fastest growing league in town, OFBL, tore the wraps off its much awaiting grand opening to the 5th Conference Evening Division last Friday at Timeout Sports Academy Gymnasium on Television Street, Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah.
This division to complement the ongoing Morning Division attracted a total of 33 teams to vie for championships in four divisions namely Non-Rated Division, Open Non-Rated Division, Inter Company Bonafide Division A-B, and C. City Max is the sponsor of the tournament to run for about 4 months. Al Zougbi is co-sponsor.
Highlighting the opening ceremony presided by Overseas Filipino Basketball League Chairman Boy Teves and Commissioner Rocky Gil was the traditional parade of participating teams.
The first trophies to go up for grabs were the Best Team in Uniform and Best Muse for each division.
Al Yanabe nabbed the Best Muse trophy in Bonafide A. Jammeel won Best in Uniform for Non-Rated, City Max for Bonafide C, while UDH put away the Best Muse trophy in Bonafide B. The Open Non-Rated Best in Uniform awardee was Awdah team.
The opening day hostilities started with a Bonafide C match between City Max and Woodrac that ended in an 81-77 victory in overtime to City Max.
Led by the 3Bs of Bolo, Badajos and Briones, Woodrac nursed a 5-point lead after the first quarter. City Max evened things up ending the third and fourth periods, forcing overtime where it held sway to get the victory. Tondo and Eusebio shared scoring honors for City Max at 23 points apiece while Salazar added 14 points.
In the Bonafide A Division, Hidada underlined its strength in a decisive 74-59 victory over Al Yanabe. Ventanilla top-scored for Hidada with 20 points, Pasculado and Carbonel each had 16 points.
In the Non-Rated Division Reza Hiegene brought down Sadafco 82-78 in a tight game. Abulencia was the main man for Reza Hiegene. He finished with 20 points including three straight from beyond the arc. Reloj and Gemino each added 18 points and Rocero contributed 12 points for Hiegene.
Helping Teves and Gil run the show are the committee members. The BRG (Basketball Referees Group) of Lito dela Cruz handles the tournament officiating.
