The Pakistan International School Jeddah-English Section (PISJ-ES) held a two-day annual sports event with young pupils from the nursery section to grade four participating.
Aftab Khokhar, the Pakistan consul general, Hamid Bashir, chairman of the school managing committee and various guests attended the event.
Imran Raza Khan, the acting principal, said mental and physical activities were important for the children's development.
“We learn many things during sports, how to maintain mental balance amidst hopes and despair, to tackle difficult situations, and make friends. We learn team spirit, toughness, strength, steadfastness and courage,” he said.
He said each house’s color represented a specific quality. “Red articulates endurance, green gives a message of life and hope, yellow expresses optimism and blue signifies peace.”
He thanked the teachers for working hard to get the event off the ground. The entire sports ground was wrapped with different colors and a march-past took place.
The gymnastics and physical education shows by young children entertained the spectators. There were many interesting races including passing through the hoop and finding the ball.
The red house won first position with 1,079 points overall, blue house came in second with 982, yellow third with 969, and green fourth with 944 points.
Khokhar, Khan and the Rabia Maroof Khan, the acting deputy head of the junior school, distributed the medals and trophies to the winners.
