The Eastern Province’s Media Youth has launched a campaign highlighting the dangers and problems that arise from misusing smart phones.
The campaign “Don’t be A Captive to Your Mobile” aims to educate the public about the adverse impact of excessively using technology and strives to curb the encroachment of smart devices on human lives.
Ahmed Al-Adwani, the executive director of the campaign, said that the drive targets the public in four stages.
The campaign includes creating awareness clips, sending text messages and holding seminars on the adverse effects of cell phones.
Al-Adwani said, “The drive has an advisory body of academic professors, experts and columnists to take advantage of their experience to develop the campaign and execute it efficiently in the coming weeks.”
The Eastern Province Municipality has reacted positively to the campaign and announced that it would post the campaign’s logo on many roads and squares, including 34 electronic and advertising boards.
Fahd Al-Jubair, the Eastern Province’s municipal mayor, thanked the youth for their efforts and social responsibility when he launched the campaign.
Al-Jubair said that new technologies, especially smart phones, have become one of the main reasons behind car accidents. It has effected on people’s communication and caused multi-dimensional social problems.
“The drive urges the municipality to raise awareness about the issue, which has been neglected for a long time and has caused the loss of human lives.
Al-Jubair said that 500,000 text messages will be sent to citizens and residents in the Eastern Province in order to highlight the importance of the campaign.
