Winter tourism takes off in Asir

Moderate temperatures, clear bright skies and vast tracts of beautiful natural landscape are essential ingredients for tourism to click, and Asir region has it all. And contrary to popular perception that the Asir Mountains provide the ideal getaway only during summers, tourism during winter is as brisk, making it a favored destination round the year.
For one, the mountains have any array of natural resources making for some of the most beautiful camping experiences in the world. The mountains provide various sporting activities. Cable cars lace around the mountains and drop into valley, and a ride on them can be a spectacular experience. The view of Abou Khayal when you take a ride from New Abha to the Green Mountain, or from the misty forests of Al-Soudah where you travel 1600 meters down to Qaws Valley, is breathtaking.
It is against this background that Asir announced the commencement of winter tourism in the region, with a host of activities in the pipeline to enthrall visitors.
Mahil and Harizat areas of Asir province which have moderate warm weather during winter will be the main center for tourism activities, Ali Sian of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) in Asir province told Arab News.
He said right from Mahil to Jizan coastal lines, the warm weather is perfect for winter tourism.
