Through a first of its kind initiative, Toyota Japan executed an agreement with Abdul Latif Jameel (ALJ)-Toyota Saudi Arabia, based on which and in coordination with Nafeesa Shams Academy for Arts and Handicrafts, a Bab Rizq Jameel affiliate, prayer rugs produced by the academy are being regularly exported to Japan from Saudi Arabia.
On arrival of the prayer rugs, Toyota Japan provide them in some of Toyota's models exported to the Gulf countries.
Jawaher Alzahrani, director of the academy, stated that the work began four months ago and some quantities of prayer rugs have been already exported to Toyota Japan in collaboration with ALJ. The prayer rugs are made by Saudi females trained at the academy. The materials are supplied to 250 women at their houses where they undertake the weaving process, she added.
Alzahrani, also said that prayer rugs produced by the academy have been consistently in demand.
Nearly 1,500 prayer rugs are shipped to Japan every month. As to craftsmanship, Alzahrani stated that the materials and weaving process are subjected to rigid supervision by a team designated by ALJ for quality.
In addition, Toyota Japan ensures the quality of such prayer rugs before providing them in Toyota cars.
Nafeesa Shams for Arts and Handicraft entered into an agreement with ALJ 4 years ago in order to equip Toyota and Lexus vehicles shipped to Saudi Arabia with such prayer rugs.
