Pakistani singer Sanam Marvi is set to perform live in Riyadh on Thursday evening.
The gala event, which will be held at the Community Hall at the Pakistan Embassy, is expected to draw a large crowd of men, women and children from Riyadh and its suburbs.
The event, sponsored by the Indus Cultural and the Social Forum of Riyadh (ICSFR), will be held under the patronage of Pakistan Ambassador Naeem Khan from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and will be followed by a dinner.Admission to this event ticket-based only.
ICSFR President Ghulam Qadir Mallah said this is the singer’s first visit to the Saudi capital and is expected attract a large crowd of Pakistani music lovers.
He said ICSFR is a social organization belonging to the Indus Valley civilization, whose history dates back 5,000 years and extends from Kashmir in the north to Karachi in the south, and of which Mohenjo-Daro (Mount of the Dead) is an icon.
“We, at ICSFR, always wanted to invite an inspirational and devotional singer for our people to have some form of entertainment. We have succeeded with the help of the ambassador of Pakistan,” Mallah said.
Mallah said that Riyadh is home to Pakistanis from various regions who speak different regional dialects.
“Sanam is the best choice, as she can sing in Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Seraiki and also in Baluchi”, he said.
Marvi began singing at the young age of 14 years and immediately shot to fame because of her spontaneous interest in music. She hails from Hyderabad in Sindh but has now relocated to Lahore-Punjab. “Marvi has become an international icon now just like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen,” Mallah noted.
Marvi is an iconic Sufi and a devotional singer and has won a high-ranking award from UNESCO. She belongs to a respectable Sindhi family and has learnt musical lessons from Faqeer Ghulam Rasool.
