Fire breaks out at Jeddah Islamic Port

A fire broke out in three large containers inside the Jeddah Islamic Port yesterday. There were various electrical tools and equipment inside the containers including fuses, adaptors, scrap, toys and gift boxes.
Saeed Sarham of Makkah Civil Defense told Arab News that the cause of the fire was possibly an external thermal source, which could be a cigarette butt. There was also a possibility of two power sources interacting, raising the temperature and starting the fire.
“As soon as we got the report, we dispatched four firefighting teams. The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes. No injuries were reported,” he said.
“The containers are stationed in an area where there are no pedestrians, which helped us contain the fire in record time. We are still investigating the cause of the fire,” he said.
