Symposium on fighting drugs begins Wednesday

The second regional symposium on combating drugs will host experts from 26 countries on May 1 and 2 in Riyadh.
The event will be held under the patronage of Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif.
Speakers from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, India, China, Philippines, Spain, Australia and Austria will attend the event. Additionally, representatives from five international organizations and specialists in narcotics control will also participate in the symposium.
The symposium aims to share information and expertise to fight drug trafficking and support international efforts to protect the lives of people from drugs.
The two-day event will include eight sessions about the latest preventive and curative programs to reduce demand for drugs, international programs for the treatment of addiction to steroids and amphetamine, international efforts in the monitoring and control of narcotics, drug abuse and the role of the Internet in the spread of narcotics.
Saudi women will play an active part in the symposium by focusing on the family unit in the fight against drugs and the role of new media in the field of prevention.
Female experts from the US, Austria and Kuwait will address the event.
