WINNIPEG, Manitoba: Captain Andrew Ladd recorded two goals and added the deciding tally in the shootout Tuesday as Winnipeg defeated visiting Tampa Bay 4-3 to move into a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
Ladd also had an assist and Blake Wheeler chipped in with a goal and two assists for the Jets, who are tied with the New York Rangers for the final playoff spot. Ondrej Pavelec made 24 saves and Mike Santorelli also converted in the shootout for Winnipeg, which let a 3-1 lead get away in the third period.
Senators 3 Hurricanes 2: Milan Michalek scored for the second consecutive game and Craig Anderson made 32 saves as host Ottawa held off Carolina.
Rookie Mika Zibanejad and Chris Neil also tallied and veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar recorded a pair of assists for the Senators, who have won three straight to pull within three points of provincial-rival Toronto for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Flyers 4 Rangers 2: Defensemen Erik Gustafsson and Kimmo Timonen scored and Steve Mason turned aside 38 shots as host Philadelphia kept its slim postseason aspirations alive by defeating New York for just the second time in 13 outings.
Brayden Schenn also tallied and Jakub Voracek scored on the empty net for his career-high 19th goal. Defenseman Brandon Manning had an assist for his first career point for the Flyers, who have won two straight and pulled within five points of the eighth-place Rangers.
Islanders 5 Panthers 2: Michael Grabner scored twice and captain Mark Streit collected a goal and an assist as New York won its final home game to improve to 6-0-2 in its last eight contests.
Matt Moulson and defenseman Radek Martinek also tallied and Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 26 shots for the seventh-place Islanders, who remained one point behind Ottawa while moving three ahead of the cross-town Rangers.
Blues 2 Canucks 1,SO: Andy McDonald and Alex Steen scored in the shootout as host St. Louis rallied to defeat Vancouver.
Brian Elliott stopped 21 shots and defenseman Jay Bouwmeester tied the game midway through the third period with his first goal for the Blues.
Capitals 5 Maple Leafs 1: Captain Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 28th goal and added an assist as host Washington won its eighth straight game.
Martin Erat also had a goal and an assist for his first points with the Capitals, who have not lost in April and added to their Southeast Division lead.
