A 100 by 7 meter carpet-looking formation made of more than 250,000 flowers is one of the major attractions at an ongoing garden and flowers festival in Madinah.
The festival is called “the Family Garden.” Madinah municipality organizes it at the King Fahd Central Garden.
A number of amusement and cultural events were unveiled at the festival.
The festival venue covers an area of 37 million square meters, comprising large green surfaces, plant nursery walkways, fountains and different formations representing various forms of Islamic art. There are also volleyball and basketball courts at different locations in the garden. A number of government departments and charity societies are presenting various programs every day in this garden.
The events include dramas, amusement programs for children and the distribution of prices and gifts.
“The festival this year coincides with the celebration of Madinah’s selection as the Islamic Cultural Capital 2013. Plenty of sales counters for agricultural and horticultural nurseries have been set up to cater for the increasing demand for farm and garden requirements such as seeds, fertilizers and irrigation tools,” Director of Tree Planting at Madinah municipality Fahd Al-Hasyuni told Saudi Press Agency yesterday. Seedlings and farming tools are also available at fair rate.
A visitor to the garden, Nasser Hassan Al-Amri, said he brought his children every day to visit the festival. He wished the event should continue at least a month.
