Dr. Sulaiman Habib Hospital, Takhasusui branch, has begun operation of the latest specialized center for nuclear medicine, the first of its kind in private sector in the region, according to Dr. Sulaiman Al-Tuwaiyyan, deputy CEO of Dr. Sulaiman Habib Medical Group (SHMG) for Hospital Affairs.
The step comes within the SHMG’s strenuous efforts to provide comprehensive health care in different medical specialties at high quality standards for all patients, he said.
The nuclear medicine center (NMC) contains a number of units, which apply very strict measures to control radioactive materials in all steps of diagnosis and treatment, he said.
Radioactive doses are processed in a separate and strictly sterilized unit through an apparatus capable of accommodating three generations of radioactive materials that could provide speedy and accurate diagnostic and treatment services to patients, he said.
The center is also equipped with specialized beds to inject radioactive materials through an automatic-run device and other beds designed to give comfort for patients during the injection process and preparation for nuclear imaging, he said.
The SHMG has also brought the most advanced medical equipment specialized in functional nuclear imaging from the General Electric (GE), which is efficient to diagnose and discover many diseases in addition to early detection of tumors, he said.
The center has also brought SPECT CT SCAN, which is specialized in detecting cases and diseases of bone cancer, kidneys, respiratory and digestive systems as well as evaluation of the performance of heart muscles.
He said the center was ready to provide high quality diagnostic services to detect micro cancerous tumors in all parts of the body in addition to the use of nuclear imaging to measure the efficiency of radiation therapy. The center is also prepared to conduct functional test of the brain in cases of brain death, dementia and Alzheimer, he added.
