A large-scale integrative model of human colon will be on display in Riyadh tomorrow. Visitors can enter the model and see for themselves how abnormal tumor cells grow and progress in different stages of colorectal cancer (CRC).
Different colorectal diseases will be identified through the posters attached to the model while animation movies will illustrate the causes of colon tumors, which is the most common type of cancer among Saudi men.
Dr. Khayal Al-Khayal, consultant colorectal surgeon, assistant professor at Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, at King Saud University (KSU), said this cultural event is part of the Saudi-International Colorectal Disease Forum, which is underway at Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh. It intends to raise awareness among the public in general, and colorectal patients in particular, about the importance of early detection and treatment of these diseases.
He called on people to come and view the visual presentations associated with the colon model and benefit from the various educational programs.
Dr. Al-Khayal pointed out that colorectal tumors are formed on the inside lining of the colon or rectum and affects men and women alike.
CRC is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world. CRC ranks first in males and third in females among all cancers in Saudi Arabia.
