RIYADH: Ambassadors from as many as 30 countries in the Kingdom visited Sanaa’ and Thafra to see the gigantic machines that are being used to dig tunnels as part of the Riyadh Metro project.
They were accompanied by the members of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh.
The officials and ambassadors reviewed the work being conducted on the wider King Abdulaziz project for public transportation.
The ambassadors watched a power point presentation about the project, which is considered to be one of the central pillars of the future of Riyadh, and its contribution to changing lifestyles in the capital by providing public transportation services to the people.
The guests listened to a description about the project’s main aspects and an explanation about the train’s path, which is 176 km long and has 85 stations, in addition to public services and centers for long-term parking.
The commission officials accompanied the ambassadors on a tour of the location where the giant tunnel-boring machines are kept. The machines are two of seven that were manufactured specifically for the project. Each machine is between 90 and 120 meters long and weighs the equivalent of four boeing 747 airplanes.
The ambassadors also reviewed the safety procedures at the project sites, as well as the automated belt that transfers excavated waste.
