WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said on Monday that ‌Iran ‌wants to ‌make a deal to end the US war against ‌Tehran and ‌that such ‌an ‌agreement “could happen.”

"Oil Prices are DROPPING LIKE A ROCK, down almost $10 a Barrel, A RECORD, because people feel that there will not be a War with Iran. Iran wants a settlement, as soon as possible. It could happen!" Trump posted ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections.

He did ‌not immediately provide details.

The US president's remarks came after Tehran revealed indirect negotiations with Washington and offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz under strict conditions.

Vice President JD Vance separately said that both he and Trump were optimistic about securing an agreement.

"We've certainly made some progress. We'll see if we can make some more," Vance told reporters on Monday.
