Intelligent and inquisitive students at Dammam’s Al-Muna International School got a firsthand experience of democracy when they elected their leaders for the current academic year.
Speaking at a colorful investiture ceremony, during which elected students received their coveted badges and sashes, Principal K.P. Mammoo Master said the entire electoral exercise was carried out by the student community.
“Right from lobbying and canvassing to crossing the ballots and inking the fingers, every single aspect was carried out by our students,” he said. “The main idea was to inculcate leadership qualities among the students.”
Prominent among those who applauded the students were Asharqia Chamber magazine journalist Shamsul Huda, Al-Muna Director Abdul Latheef P.B., Huda Group legal adviser Fahd Al-Qahtani, Abdu Rahiman Arakkal of Alsharq newspaper and Vice Principal Abdul Khader V.
Al-Muna school, headed by Al-Huda Group Managing Director T.P. Mohammed, has in just four years attained high credibility in the Eastern Province. One of the major reasons for its rapid popularity is the school’s special focus on Islamic studies for Muslim students and moral science for non-Muslim students.
The investiture ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. It was followed by the induction of the student cabinet. Badges and sashes were awarded to Head Boy Richu Johnson, Head Girl Aatiyah Kola, Assistant Head Boy Rifadh Ahmed, Assistant Head Girl Umm-e-Hani, Sports Captain (Boys) Sanofar Khan and Sports Captain (Girls) Asha Muralidhar.
Shamsul Huda awarded badges and sashes to Arts Secretary (Boys) Anjoom Moopan, Arts Secretary (Girls) Thamanna Zanbaq, Magazine Editor (Boys) Rameez Kadooran and Magazine Editor (Girls) Misna Muhammad Basheer.
Abdul Latheef pinned the badges to Sapphire House Captain (Boys) Jaideep J.M. and Vice-Captain Lezly Salim, Sapphire House Captain (Girls) Thaskeena S. and Vice-Captain Rabia Shariff, Topaz House Captain (Boys) Syed Yousuf Basha and Vice-Captain Mohammed Sahil, Topaz House Captain (Girls) Nainu Shajahan and Vice-Captain Milanta Ross.
Abdu Rahiman Arakkal awarded the badges and sashes to Ruby House Captain (Boys) Muhsin Abdul Rahman and Vice-Captain Burhanudheen, Ruby House Captain (Girls) Syeda Ameera and Vice-Captain Najmunnisa Aboobakker, Emerald House Captain (Boys) Abdullah and Vice-Captain Muhammad Mukhtar, Emerald House Captain (Girls) Shanima and Vice-Captain Hadiya Rejul.
“I am very impressed by the school’s success and its teaching faculty,” said Shamsul Huda. He praised the school’s holistic approach and for providing the right platform to its students to hone their leadership skills.
In his message to the students, Vice Principal Abdul Khader said the school is proud to have attracted the best of the best from the community.
“We are constantly engaged in taking the school to new heights of excellence,” he said. Naseeh Kurikkalagath conducted the program with poise. Staff Secretary Febina Sulfiker delivered a vote of thanks.
