Al-Majdouie etches name into Guinness

Dammam-based Al-Majdouie Logistics Company etched its name into the world’s most prestigious record book by transporting the biggest load ever by road.
“Yes, Al-Majdouie has done it,” Guinness World Records Managing Director Alistair Richards told Arab News at the weekend. “We have certified that they have successfully moved an evaporator unit weighing 5,391 tons more than 2 km along desert roads, setting a new record for the heaviest item moved by road freight,” said Richards.
There were huge celebrations at the Sheraton Dammam during which Al-Majdouie Group President Abdullah Al-Majdouie and Vice President (Logistics) Syed I. Mustafa received the Guinness certificate from Richards and Guinness Client Services Manager Talal Omar.
“It gives me a great pleasure to present this certificate to Al-Majdouie Group for achieving the record for the heaviest item moved by road freight,” said Richards amid a thunderous applause.
The evaporator, built in South Korea and shipped in one piece to Saudi Arabia, is a crucial element for the world’s biggest desalination plant that is coming up at Ras Al-Khair in the Eastern Province.
“In size, it is larger than a football field and has an assumed weight of 5,000 cars ... It measures 124 meters long, 34 meters in width and 12 meters in height ...and weighs 5,391 tons,” said Mustafa.
“Transporting such a behemoth from the port to the construction site in Ras Al-Khair required months of planning and thorough study by our engineering and technical teams,” said Mustafa, a Pakistani national who has been with Al-Majdouie Group for more than 36 years.
“We are more than just happy to have played our part in carrying out this phenomenal project,” said Abdullah Al-Majdouie. “This is a national achievement.”
Chairman Ali Al-Majdouie, who built the company from a scratch into a business monolith that it is today, was extremely delighted with the feat achieved by his able sons.
