JEDDAH: Saudia Ice Cream came within a point shy of a perfect grand slam in an amazing performance that saw the league leader pull away from the pack five weeks into the FTBJ-ICBL 36th Conference at the Bowling City here.
The Ice Cream makers tallied 51 points for their first Team of the Week award. The perfect score of 52 points might have escaped from the grasp of Saudia Ice Cream but not the grand slam when Marie Gumpal and Majid Aslani turned in Bowler of the Week award-winning displays in their divisions.
Gumpal shot 660 on lines of 200, 193 and 213 to become the ladies Bowler of the Week while Aslani was the men’s Bowler of the Week after shooting the high series of 690 on lines of 213, 276 and 201.
Ekis Reload, which denied Saudia Ice Cream a perfect 52 by winning the third game, finished a distant second on the day with 39 points ahead of Zekiesha 37.
Sadafco and Sagmit Dental Clinic tied on 32 points followed by Sky Freight-OSN, Pinslashers 28 and Patsamba 26.
Defending champion Hidada Ltd., still to make a headway in the young tournament, returned 23 points in ninth place with Crystal-Rock n Roll on 21.5 points. JP Gilas 2, D’ Barkads and United Doctors occupied the last three places on 20.5, 20 and 4 points in that order.
Team captain Igna Salgado and Frank Afurong preserved the big gains made by Gumpal and Aslani at Saudia Ice Cream by coming up with superb rounds of 671 and 658. Marissa Resano added 620 from the distaff side while Gerry Mandanas tossed in 240.
Besides Saudia Ekis Reload was another team to gain a lot of ground as it moved up two notches to second in the team standings thanks mainly to Emil Payongayong and Faisal Relativo who drilled 667 and 622.
Ekis ladies Alma Bacero and Malu Gimie came through with 591 and 530. Zaldy Bacero had 217-245 while George Mangaliman contributed 205.
At Zekiesha Dylan Ilagan and Grace Funtilon struck the hardest on 630 and 611 that went with the 585 by Michelle Mata, 201-204 by Ric Antonio, 188-199 by Nezar Al Hamwe and 211-201 by Randy Mata.
Saudia sister team Sadafco had Danny Bautista leading the way on 654 followed by the ladies pair of Charrie Guzman 576 and Malou Nidoy 574. Sharing two games each were Pancho Cuevas 181-208, Joel Nidoy 200-235 and Rey Feliciano 170-175.
For Sagmit Dental Clinic leading scorers were Ding dela Rosa 638, Ruel Santoc 633 and Mhon Laxamana 594. Evelyn Santoc and Ester Santoc compiled 558 and 575 in the five-man rotation.
Ryan Conde joined the week’s high scorers on 677 while leading Sky Freight that also netted 602 from James Galvan, 543 from Babes Tiongson, 486 from Yolly Santos, 201-227 from Goying Salazar and 230 from Oca Bernabe.
