SANAA: The Saudi Embassy in Yemen held a reception here on Sunday evening to honor members of the Saudi medical mission who are currently in the Yemeni capital to perform surgeries on children who have cardiac anomalies or congenital heart defects.
Charges d' Affaires Dr. Hazza Al-Mutairi commended the mission's work, saying it bolsters fraternal ties between the governments and people of Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The mission composed of 77 cardiologists and medical assistants arrived in Sanaa last week with a target to perform more than 100 heart surgeries on children free of charge.
The team will also provide Sanaa’s Al-Thawra General Hospital with the medical equipment it needs to perform heart surgeries in the hospital.
The hospital’s head, Dr. Abdulkareem Al-Khulani, said the team is large, compared to other Saudi medical teams that visited Yemen in the past. “It will go a long way in cementing ties between the two countries,” he said.
