ALKHOBAR: A Saudi woman student studying for her doctorate in the United States has been making a significant impact with her expertise in interior design, which includes being appointed a lecturer in the subject at Eastern Michigan University.
Nadiah Abdul Rahim Arafah previously studied at Princess Nora Bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, thereafter at Sheffield University in the United States by correspondence.
Arafah, who is studying under the King Abdullah Scholarship Program, participated in Eastern Michigan University’s research fair and postgraduate research conference. She was initially appointed as a teaching assistant to help postgraduate students and then become a lecturer in the subject.
While at the university, she was honored three years in a row for her academic achievements, and chosen to represent the interior design department for the media campaign run by the admissions and registration office at the institution.
On the future of interior design for Saudi women, Arafah said: “There is no doubt that the field is constantly evolving around the world, and Saudi woman have more job opportunities available, especially now that several Saudi universities have become interested in this specialization.”
Arafah said she was now working to complete her doctorate, which is looking at the development of economically sustainable buildings. She also wants to publish research in scientific journals, and then return to work at a university in the Kingdom.
