Minister pulls up managers for project delays

RIYADH: Transport Minister Abdullah Al-Muqbil has pulled up the managers of two projects here for laxity and delay.
Al-Muqbil took the action against the contractor on Thursday, when he visited the sites of various ongoing road projects in the capital.
The minister said Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman is keen on speedy completion of the projects to ease traffic congestion in Riyadh.
Al-Muqbil noticed damaged metallic fences lying along Khurais and Makkah roads and instructed the contractor to get it cleared quickly. He also noticed the contractor's slow pace of work and poor performance, especially on the intersection of Khurais Road with Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Road.
He ordered the contractor to speed up the work in these areas by deploying more equipment on the ground.
He also ordered fast disposal of rubble and the quick completion of the work as the dug-up road and barriers along the way were presenting an ugly sight.
The minister asked the contractors of both projects to coordinate with each other and complete them within two weeks from the date of his visit.
Al-Muqbil's tour also covered maintenance work along the Janadriah Road, where he noticed the low level of maintenance, expansion of bridges and damage. He also directed that the Khuzam Road work be completed within a month.
On the intersection of Riyadh and Qassim roads with the highway that was withdrawn from a former contractor for not implementing the project on time, the minister asked the new contractor to complete the project expeditiously.
He also inspected the Abraj-Al-Yamamah University Diriyah intersection projects along Salbukh Road where he ordered immediate action against the project manager for delay. He urged the contractor to submit an action plan within a week from the date of his visit.
At the Diriyah intersection, the minister pressed for the completion of the project in the southern point of the intersection.
