RIYADH: The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a death among the seven Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases in Al-Ahsa region on Friday.
In addition to the seven cases announced earlier, the MoH also announced a new case on Friday.
All affected patients are currently under treatment at Al-Mana General Hospital in Al-Ahsa, which is part of a private group of hospitals. They have been isolated for health safety purposes, according to Health Ministry sources. The deceased was a 78-year-old man in Hofuf who was under treatment, while the new case is a 28-year-old expatriate woman in the Al-Ahsa region.
Earlier in a statement, MoH spokesman Faisal Al-Zahrani said that health officials were able to identify the disease immediately under the epidemiological survey carried out by the ministry.
“All seven cases were tested positive on Tuesday night,” Al-Zahrani said, adding that the patients were from one primary case. One of the seven is a nurse working in one of the hospitals in the region. Friday’s new case was also from the primary case.
