JEDDAH: The number of Saudis who took early retirement schemes last year stood at 38,647, the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) has said.
The Eastern Provinces got the lion's share of disbursements for retirees, amounting to SR3.8 billion, equivalent to 60.8 percent of the total cash disbursement of SR6.3 billion, said GOSI. The number of early retirees in EP alone stood at 19,515 persons, it said.
According to GOSI, the number of early retirement cases in Riyadh stood at 6,833, with a total disbursement of SR047.8 million, equivalent to 17.6 percent of the total money disbursed.
Makkah region came third with 6,279 preferring early retirement, Jeddah accounted for 4,890 and in Makkah city 1,389. The total amount disbursed in Makkah region stood at SR868.7 million or 13.7 percent of the total.
In Qasim, 1,353 took early retirement with a disbursement of SR144.9 million and the number early retirees in Madinah stood at 1,148 cases with a total disbursement of SR135.4 million.
GOSI disbursed SR506.2 billion last year, with an increase of SR50.1 billion against the year before.
