WASHINGTON: A number of US Congress members have appreciated the Kingdom’s role and leadership in these hard times, especially with regard to Yemen and Iran’s malicious intentions in the region.
The appreciation came during a meeting of the US-Saudi Arabia Parliament friendship committee during the visit of a Shoura Council delegation to Washington. The delegation met with Senators John McCain, Benjamin Cardin and Edward J. Rosin.
The Shoura delegation, headed by Mohammad Al-Naqadi, made known its stand on various issues, particularly Yemen and Iran’s ambitions in the region.
The Congress members appreciated the role of the Kingdom in bringing back legitimacy to Yemen, saying that Saudi Arabia should be extended all possible support on this matter.
They confirmed that Iran is not committed to international law and that Tehran has its own agenda of interference in the affairs of countries of the region, such as Syria, Bahrain, Iraq and Yemen.
The Congress members said they support the measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its borders and restrict the expansion of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
On the Iranian nuclear file, the Congressmen laid emphasis on giving international inspectors full freedom to inspect Iranian nuclear sites.
The members said they are worried that Iran might exploit the money given to it if an agreement is reached between Iran and the 5+1 countries because it might be used in activities to destabilize the region.
