Rashed Al-Zahrani, deputy governor of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC), said on Tuesday that the TVTC has taken several measures including raising the capacity of its colleges to meet the high demand for admissions which have reached 68,457 students.
According to the official, there was a 32 percent increase in the number of applicants during the first quarter of the current training year, which was considered an indicator of the high level of awareness of TVTC’s role in meeting the Saudi labor market needs for a well-trained workforce.
The number of applicants in technical colleges for boys during the first training session was 52,419 of which 16,723 were granted admission. This represented a 31.9 percent increase in the number of male applicants. On the other hand, there were 16,038 applicants for girls’ technical colleges from which 1,242 were admitted representing 7.74 percent of the successful applicants.
Commenting on this, Al-Zahrani said that the TVTC colleges’ current capacity stands at 35 colleges for males and 18 for females. He added that the organization is working to enhance this capacity to cater to more applicants.
“The TVTC will be opening branches in provinces nationwide to provide training and save the students from the commutes and moving to the major cities,” he said, adding that doing so would also encourage the optimal use of facilities and industrial institutes.
He said that during last year’s training sessions, TVTC managed to operate 14 branches and is currently preparing to open another 16 branches. “Graduates from the Riyadh College Trainers Preparation will be employed to coach and train students in these new branches,” the official said, adding that they would be joined by the graduates of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques scholarship program for trained technicians.
“The institution has taken several steps that have contributed to the transformation of the training units to an attractive environment through direct contact and coordination with the labor market such as implementing programs for employment through joint training programs with the private sector,” he concluded.
