The number of cardiac transplant operations carried out by the Cardiology Center at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC) has reached 207 so far, thus placing the center among the top global heart transplant centers, local media said quoting data released by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).
Meanwhile, Dr. Qasim Al-Qasabi, the CEO of KFSH&RC said the Heart Transplant Program (HTP) at KFSH&RC has been the most active program Kingdom-wide since its inception in 1989 with the total number of operations standing at 207.
In Jan-Dec period of the current year (2014), the HTP conducted 25 transplants compared to 15 in 2013, or an increase of 67 percent, he said.
The HTP raised the success rate of its operations to 89 percent which outperformed the average success rates of 250 cardiology centers in 45 countries including those located in reputed American and European centers which are members of the ISHLT, he noted.
Dr. Al-Qasabi appreciated the medical, nursing and technical teams working at the HTP and affirmed the existence of solid-based and integrated infrastructure in the KFSH&RC in the forms of advanced operation rooms or intensive care units (ICUs) required by such operations.
