Major fire hits textile factory in Riyadh industrial city

A massive fire ripped through a textile factory at an industrial city in Riyadh late on Sunday night, gutting the building and causing huge damage to property.
Maj. Mohammed Al-Hamadi, Civil Defense spokesman told Arab News on Monday: “A huge fire spread over 9000 sq. meters of area.”
He said that the Civil Defense teams rushed to the spot to douse the flames as soon as they received the emergency call.
“Some 25 teams of the Civil Defense, Red Crescent and rescue teams from the industrial city joined hands to control the blaze,” he said, adding that helicopters of the Civil Defense were also deployed to put out the fire.
Confirming that there was no loss of life or serious injury, he said that the firefighting teams reached the spot in time and were able to bring the situation under control with the help of rescue teams.
He also said that the loss of property ran into millions of riyals but refused to comment further. He added that an investigation was under way to find the cause of the fire.
Earlier, workers in the area had alerted the Civil Defense after noticing thick smoke and flames from the factory.
They attributed the blaze to a short circuit in the factory.
