Children wow Saudi guests with creative work

More than 100 expatriate children, who took part in an arts and speech competition here to celebrate Saudi National Day, displayed good knowledge of local landmarks, Islamic sites, the Kingdom's flag and its history, according to participants.
Khak-e-Taiba Trust (KTT), an educational and community welfare organization, hosted the event in Jeddah on Tuesday.
The winners of the contest were Hana Faisal, Zeba Jabeen, Nida Rahman (from the senior group), and Zunaira Fatima, from the junior group.
Aleem Khan Falki, chief advisor of the body, said the event was organized to improve literacy and celebrate Saudi National Day. The competition was open to children from six to 12 years of age.
The guests included Osama Hatem Okal from Saudi Arabian Airlines; Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, media and public relations manager at Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Muhammad Albura'ai from Makkah Newspaper; Syed Masood Ahmed, principal of Indian International School-Jeddah, and Abdullah Oun, a journalist from Makkah Newspaper.
Okal thanked the organizers and said he was amazed at the creativity of the children and their knowledge of the country. Al-Ghamdi said the event would help expatriate children learn to love the Kingdom.
Syed Khaja Viqaruddin, KTT trustee and general secretary, said the organization holds these events regularly to help develop the communication skills of children. The judges included Hassan Bayazeed, founder of KTT; Syed Jamallullah Qadri, president of Jeddah Urdu Academy; Anzar Ahmed, from the arts and craft department of Al-Falah School; Fouzia Mujeeb, from the department of arts and craft at Mahad Al-Uloom; and Fouzia Iqtedar, from the International Indian School Jeddah.
Qadri said the contest was an excellent way to teach children about the importance of Saudi Arabia in the world.
KTT President Ahmed Abdul Hakeem presided over the event.
The concept of the function was developed by members of the overseas trustees of the trust, including Shamim Kausar, Aijaz Ahmed Khan and Mohammad Siadath Ali Khan.
