The Communication and Information Technology Commission plans to change the current 9-digit landline telephone number to 10-digit system by adding the digit 1 to the six geographical zone codes in May and August.
The Riyadh area code will change from 01 into 011 on May 13, according to the CITC.
This change will not include the way of dialing among fixed lines in the same city, which will remain as it is now. However, when dialing from mobiles to fixed lines, the new digit must be added.
For the other five areas, the code change will be on Aug. 18. The new code for the regions will be: Makkah 012, Madinah 014, Eastern Region 013, Qassim 016 and the Southern Region 017.
