Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd, general president of Youth Welfare, launched a new show on YouTube called “Nawaf Maa Al Shabab” in an attempt to reach more Saudi youth through social media.
Two videos showing the prince answering questions from Saudi youth have already been posted.
Prince Nawaf said: “The idea came from my father Prince Faisal bin Fahd when he had his own radio show in the 70s. I wanted to develop this idea and through social media reach out to the largest number of Saudi youths. This show informs young people about what’s new with Youth Welfare and the activities we offer.”
The prince said: “Many people think Youth Welfare only covers football but this is not the case. We take care of all youth interests in Saudi Arabia. Most sports shows focus on one sport or two and do not reflect what Saudi youths are interested in or good at. This show will be a hub for all sports and we will discuss all topics relating to them.”
Youth Welfare offers private programs and tutoring for young people interested in sports and other activities such as memorizing the Qur'an. The prince said: “We are working on giving young people what they ask for. Saudi youths can go on our website and share their ideas and suggestions through the on-line survey.
Mohammed Al-Mutabagani, co-founder and CEO of GT Creative House, the company that launched the show, said the initiative was the prince’s idea. “He wanted an accessible way to reach the youth. I saw a tweet from the prince on Twitter and suggested we create a YouTube show to reach young people — exactly like his father did with his radio show.
“We monitor questions to the prince on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube and produce the video of the prince answering the questions,” he added.
The first episode was shot on location at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah and the second at the King Fahd sport city in Jeddah.
Al-Mutabagani and the prince are working on a free “Ask Nawaf” app to make it easier for Saudi youths to ask and vote for questions they want the prince to answer on his next show.
