Interior Minister Prince Ahmed praised on Wednesday Filipinos working in the Kingdom for their reputation as professional workers.
He said statistics indicate Filipinos follow the rules and regulations of the Kingdom and only a small minority had run ins with the law.
Prince Ahmed's comments were made during a meeting with Philippine Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago who called on him in his office in Jeddah and conveyed the Philippine government's congratulations on his appointment as interior minister.
Tago was accompanied by Consul General Uriel Norman Garibay, who is based in Jeddah.
Tago also extended Philippine President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino’s Ramadan greetings.
He thanked the Saudi interior minister for the regular royal pardons granted to Filipinos detained in the Kingdom for various offenses.
He expressed hope that both countries would finalize soon several proposed agreements that would enhance bilateral cooperation.
Tago cited in particular agreements governing the transfer of convicts to the respective countries for serving sentences as well as those related to combating terrorism and transnational crime.
He also thanked the Kingdom for its historical and continuing support for the peace process in southern Philippines.
Saudi Arabia is a member of the Peace Committee in Southern Philippines established by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to facilitate the 1996 peace agreement with the Moro National Liberation Front. It is also a member of the international contact group for the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
