Philippine National Bank Unified wrested the top spot from SABB Advance during the fourth week in the Interbank Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (ITBR) league at the InterContinental Hotel Bowling Center here.
Acting captain Jun Evangelista powered his team to victory by scoring an excellent four-game series of 813. He was assisted by Ronald Cruz, Edwin Nunez and Sonny Alviso who burned the lanes with a series of 792, 716, and 645 respectively. James Frizzle had 546 in three games while Roland Garcia added 161.
SABB-SAMA overpowered BSF-CBG 305-50. Captain Teody Zulaybar used a five-man team line-up to capture three games against their opponent. Clem Guelas was the highest scorer with 814 followed by Dawood Serano with 813, Teody Zulaybar (727), Freddie Solomon (712) and Jun Macaranda (635).
Lead scorer at BSF-CBG was the trio of Abet Minoza, Art Bumatay and Alfred Estrada with four-game series of 746, 721 and 714. They were supported by Andy Illanza with 448, Guilbert Mesias and captain Ken Hechanova had 322 and 308 in two games while Dennis Buot made 160.
The game between handicap-rich Alinma Tefa’al, captained by Jojo de Silva, and former champion Banque Saudi Fransi of Jun Bantug ended in a draw with two wins each.
Guest player Francis Guron was at his best form and was crowned Bowler of the Week after shooting the high series of 846. However, it was Alinma Tefa’al which registered 30 extra points during the third game to win the match.
In another exciting match, Alinma Aspire thrashed SABB Advance 150-50.
During the fifth week, SABB Advance bounced back with a staggering 406 points win over sister-team SABB-SAMA. Advance took home the Team of the Week honors with a back-to-back Bowler of the Week victory for Jaffer Al-Khatiri.
Jaffer was supported by teammates Arnold Jesena, Fahad Al Heza, Gerry Austria and Ahmed Qarqoush who rolled 789, 780, 775 and 729 respectively. However, they are still 140 points away from reclaiming the top spot from rival PNB Unified.
PNB Unified blanked former champion Banque Saudi Fransi 340-0.
Evangelista utilized all his eight reserve players to successfully keep the top spot in the team standings.
The pair of James Frizzle and Edwin Nunez fired their best shots in rounds of 777 and 700 while Bantug and Francis Guron on the opposing team BSF failed to get the much needed support from team members. Bantug and Guron rolled 709 and 694.
Alinma Aspire captained by Jojo de Silva continued to outbowl opponents defeating Saudi Hollandi Bank 180-50.
The pair of Gelo Train and Abdulrahman Ahmed sparked Aspire to victory with 772 and 762. On the opposing team, Rodel Yap and Gerry Ayonon carded 740 and 707. The match between Saudi Investment and Alinma Tefa’al ended in a draw at 130 points each while BSF-CBG playing as bye team posted 260 points.
