DUBAI: Armchair travelers can visit the world’s tallest skyscraper and inspect one of the largest shopping malls with the addition of Dubai to Google Street View, Google said on Tuesday.
The online pictorial map of the city — the first from the UAE to appear on Google Street View — allows users to navigate through several levels of the 830 meter tall Burj Khalifa skyscraper in downtown Dubai, including an observation deck near the top of the building.
Google Street View also provides an inside look at the Dubai Mall and provides other views of the city’s pedestrian walkways, highways, skyscrapers, beaches and Dubai Creek, where dhows are shown docked at the pier.
IN a separate development, a top Emirati court on Tuesday sentenced 11 radicals to up to life imprisonment for links to Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants as well as rebels in Syria, official media reported.
The Federal Supreme Court convicted them of bomb-making and of joining and financing Al-Qaeda franchise Al-Nusra Front and rebel group Ahrar Al-Sham, both in Syria.
Four defendants, who were tried in their absence, were handed life sentences while seven others were jailed for between three and 15 years, the WAM news agency said.
They include six foreigners — four with Comoros Islands passports and two Syrians — who will be deported after serving their jail terms, according to local media.
