Rycaps — Saudi designer duo’s trendy turbans

Saudi fashion designers Yasmin Mosli and Ranim Ramadani like to refer to themselves as the Rycaps family because to them their brand feels like home.
The co-founders of the brand ‘Rycaps’ are also the designers of turbans and abayas in their Jeddah store. “Our sales staff are like our family members who reflect the love and respect we hold for our products and our high customer care service. We are building up a positive environment to have them consider the business as their own,” the designers said. “We also recognize our team of tailors that handcraft and embroider each turban, abaya and thobe,” they added.

Arab News met with the designers and found out what the USP of Rycaps is:

What is it about fashion that attracted you to this field?
We were attracted to this field to provide ourselves with hijab turbans and caps that could make our hijab more practical and add a more youthful and stylish look to it. It turned into a small business after that.

Tell us about your brand, what does Rycaps mean?
RYCAPS: R is Ranim’s initial and Y is mine and Caps is the first design we did, which is the hijab cap.

Your designs are a mixture of the modern and the cultural. How did you manage to blend the two elements?
This blend is inspired from our community’s culture and today’s fashion. And it is done that way to provide women with the modest and fashionable look that they are looking for.

What inspires you when designing a new collection?
We are inspired by the beauty we see around us in the fashion world and different colors that dominate every fashion season. Of course, we are also inspired by our customers’ suggestions and feedback.

Tell us about your Spring/Summer and Ramadan collection.
For this SS14 Ramadan Collection, we have prepared colorful cotton turbans that are suitable for summer and silk embroidered turbans that are suitable for Eid and special occasion. We have also designed colorful cotton thobes and pure silk and chiffon fancy thobes that can suit women of different tastes. We have also prepared a collection of colored cotton embroidered abayas that are unique.

What are the materials and fabrics you usually like to use in your designs?
We usually use light fabrics or cottons for turbans to make them as practical and comfortable as possible. We use pure silk for a fancier turban line.

How do you want your clients to feel when wearing Rycaps?
Stylish, unique, comfortable and practical.

Describe your fashion style.
Our fashion style is a range between safe classics and funky, edgy designs.

Do you follow international trends or do you make your own trends?
Of course, like any designers, we are updated with international fashion trends and are inspired by it in our upcoming designs. However, all our designs have to have our personal fingerprints and vision as a whole.

What sets your brand aside from other local fashion brands?
Rycaps is the pioneer turban brand, especially in Jeddah and has built its international reputation over the years.

What is the role of social media in marketing your brand?
We rely on social media and Instagram (@rycaps_sa) as a main tool to market our brand that has reached more than 31,000 followers.

Where do you sell and where do you wish to sell your clothing line?
We have our own boutique in the Red Sea Mall, Jeddah, and are registered on an online shopping website called Stylana, which is specialized in selling products of known local Saudi designers. We also receive orders via a special WhatsApp number and e-mail and we ship worldwide.

What are you working on right now?
We are just done with our SS14 RYCAPS Ramadan/Eid Thobe & Dress and will have our abaya collection ready very soon.
