Field inspection teams of the Riyadh Municipality have closed down more than 29 food firms and restaurants in different parts of the city for health and hygienic violations, local media said. The field teams also banned more than 68 workers from work for hygienic and health violations following intensive crackdowns on restaurants, eateries, cafes, vegetable shops, and non-Saudi street venders, the media said.
The teams also confiscated more than 271 kg of rotten, expired food items unfit for human consumption and 78 pieces of unhygienic utensils, the media said.
In a similar situation, inspection teams of Najran Municipality have closed down 56 food firms for health and hygienic violations following undeclared visits to a number of restaurants, food stores and commercial centers in the region.
During the field campaign, the inspectors found rotten and spoiled poultry, cheese, fish, and vegetables due to the failure of the cooling system in one well-known shopping center, an official told Al-Jazeerah daily.
All the rotten items were immediately destroyed whereas some owners of the restaurants and eateries have pledged to comply with the required health and hygienic specifications, the official said.
