Five years ago, these three talented Lebanese sisters realized they have one thing in common, their love for jewelry and wearing them loud and proud. The Mukhi Sisters brand has been popping up in blogs and fashion magazines, such as Style Arabia, and their pieces of jewelry can be seen on many young women around the Middle East, mostly in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. The three sisters, Maya, Meena and Zeenat, have varying tastes but somehow they are able to join forces and create a brand that suits all tastes and styles. It’s not by coincidence that their love for precious gems and stones came about; they owe it to their parents who are well-known jewelers. The family has a long history of being involved in the jewelry business. Their father and his family have been in the industry since 1875, while their mother runs her company since 1982. Thus, the sisters grew up exposed to the industry and surrounded by the finest stones.
Arab news contacted the Mukhi Sisters and got an insight into how they were able to present their brand the way they do.
To what extent have your parents inspired you?
A lot! To the extent of making us fall in love with this industry. We grew up surrounded by fine jewelry; it’s easy to see how.
You are three sisters, each with selective yet very different tastes, how did your love for jewelry and interest in business come to life?
It was Maya’s idea. She always wanted to have something of her own, so she started with a collection and it quickly turned into a success. So after the three of us graduated from college, we decided to join our creative forces and start Mukhi Sisters. We wanted to share our style and add our attitude to the market, and so we did!
What is your drive and muse in creating your statement pieces?
Honestly, it could be anything and everything. So far, we’ve been driven by the love for specific stones and a certain feeling we get.
Your motto is “jewelry with an attitude.” How do you see your pieces different from other well-known brands? What makes the pieces you create unique in their own way?
Our pieces are unique because they are a reflection of our styles, of something we felt at a specific moment. And we turned that moment into a jewel. In addition to that, we have a certain way of styling up our clients with our jewelry, and this is something that we enjoy doing. Our pieces are not fads, or trends. We see our jewelry as “wearable collections of fine jewelry,” we make our best so that our clients wear our pieces everyday. They become part of their everyday lives.
Through observation, it’s clear that you have a keen interest in vintage pieces. How are you able to attract the attention of buyers who are looking for modern day designs?
We love vintage, which is true. And one of our collections is based on authentic vintage pieces as well as new designs made using old material, to give that vintage feel. However, we also have two other collections that are more modern: “Ever Yours” and “Contagious.”
Which of your collections speak most about you and your sisters, a collection that show who the real “Mukhi Sisters” are all about?
Each collection is based on the style of one of the sisters! Meena is classic and chic. Our collection “Ever Yours” is a reflection of her style. Fine and romantic pieces, all made with gold, diamonds and other precious stones. Zeenat is different; she has a style of her own. She almost never leaves the house without having at least 6 or 7 rings on. If she were to be a Mukhi Sisters, she’d be “contagious”. That collection is all about her style. As for me, Maya, I am somewhere between a rock star and a princess! I have the biggest love for vintage jewelry and this is why we have the “Queen Vicky” collection.
What makes the Mukhi Sisters brand work, what makes it special?
You would have to ask our clients. Mostly, we’d say it’s love!
As a jewelry lover, what are some of your favorite pieces from your collection?
We have favorite items from each collection. Every time we come up with something new, it’s like falling in love again and getting that rush again! Like today, I am in love with rings designed by Zeenat. Meena is in love with our signature fleur de lys ring and Zeenat is hooked on a jade pendant from the same collection.
You’ve launched several collections over the past few years, any new ideas coming up and where will we be able to find them in Saudi Arabia?
We regularly present our clients with new collections. We are working on our anniversary collection as we turn five this year. It will be launched at the store in Beirut and will also be available at SAUCE concept store in Dubai and will be expected to be at Bisat Al-Reeh in Jeddah this Ramadan. We’ve launched an app for both iPhone users and soon for Android users. It’s called Love Translator, and the purpose of it is to remind men that the best way to say it is with jewelry.
You are based in Beirut, Lebanon and you’ve participated in a number of events in and out of Lebanon, one of which is the Bisat Al-Reeh Ramadan festival in Jeddah. Do you think you’d have a store based in one of the cities in the Kingdom and expand your beautiful brand?
We’d love to. We are looking for new opportunities to expand the brand, and we are open to suggestions.
