The Mashair trains will be transporting about 1 million pilgrims during this Haj season, he said on Wednesday.
He said 11 Civil Defense units would undertake the tasks of rescue, fire extinguishing and the evacuation of passengers in case of any emergency situation on the train. He added that 22 other support units would be stationed along the 20-km railway track.
Al-Ghashsham said the Civil Defense units, assigned to preserve the safety of passengers, underwent intensive training and was thoroughly taught on how to promptly and seamlessly deal with any emergency situation.
He said all possible risk scenarios in the operations of the trains and the areas surrounding it were carefully studied with the operating company and precautionary measures have been taken to preempt such incidents.
According to Al-Ghashsham, the units were trained on how to deal with eventualities, such as train accidents. They were also taught how to make optimum use of emergency exits, the water networks and electricity-controlled devices in each station.
He said Civil Defense units, specialized in rescue and fire-fighting operations, would be deployed at all stations to rescue passengers using emergency exits. He added that teams from the operating company will also be placed in all stations.
Al-Ghashsham said rescue teams will also be stationed at the headquarters of the operating company, which includes offices, train hangers, maintenance and repair workshops and the control room.
He said 150 security and Civil Defense staff would be deployed in each station at Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah to intervene quickly to deal with probabilities that might result from overcrowding and stampede.
