The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) said Saturday the young man used his position of authority to threaten the girl with imprisonment and deportation if she did not give in to his advances. The Haia did not identify either the man or his victim.
She told investigators that she met the man online. He allegedly said he was serious in his intention to marry her.
She claimed that he had sex with her and that she allowed him to photograph her in inappropriate postures.
The Haia said according to investigations, the man refused to marry her and paid her SR10,000 to stay silent.
It added that the investigations proved the Arab girl was blackmailed and the man threatened to imprison and deport her if she continued to ask him to marry her because his job enabled him to carry out his threats.
The girl said in her complaint that the young man severed his relationship with her after he got married, but three months later he started blackmailing her using her photographs as leverage. When the young man refused to leave her alone, she approached the Haia for help.
Haia officers listened to his recordings on his mobile and were able to nab him in Al-Safa district of north Jeddah. They said they found more than 17 inappropriate photographs of the girl on his laptop.
According to the Haia, the list of charges against the young man prepared by the Prosecution and Investigation Commission (PIC) included having sex with a virgin, blackmailing her and photographing her in inappropriate positions in addition to threatening her.
The PIC is also seeking severe punishment for the man for violating public rights and committing electronic crimes.
Under Saudi regulations, anyone found guilty of producing sexually explicit content with the intention of distributing it may be sentenced to five years in prison in addition to fines of up to SR5 million.
