Speaking to reporters after opening a seminar in Jeddah, he said he believed the Supreme Economic Council would soon approve the privatization of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).
"We have restructured six sectors to cope with the privatization plan," the minister said. "We have been awaiting a decision on SWCC privatization for more than one and a half years," he pointed out.
Al-Hussayen said work on none of the ministry's projects in various parts of the Kingdom has been affected. "We'll hold contracting companies responsible if there is any negligence or delay in implementing projects."
He said there is an agreement between his ministry and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to use energy saving construction materials. "About 80 percent of electricity in the Kingdom is used for air conditioning."
Al-Hussayen said the Khafji desalination plant would supply 300,000 cubic meters of solar energy shortly. "We have been applying nanotechnology to produce solar energy," he added.
The minister also pointed out that leakage of water from the network has been reduced to 20 percent. "We are now using iron pipes instead of plastic pipes to prevent leakages," he added.
