The president of the Brazilian association of hotel industry says there is a “favorable” trend in the creation of new hotel rooms ahead of the games, thanks mostly to incentives from the city.
Alvaro Brito Bezerra de Mello told the O Globo newspaper on Monday that 9,000 new hotel rooms have been announced since Rio was awarded the games last year.
Hotel shortage was one of the concerns of the International Olympic Committee before choosing Rio as the host city.
Mello said there will also be enough rooms in the city for the 2014 World Cup. Rio is expected to host the tournament’s final at Maracana stadium.
