Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal on Saturday asked the business owners to make the changes within six months.
“I am coming to this hall for the second time. I am surprised to know that its name is Marbaya (Marbella). Why don’t we have an Arabic name for it. We are in the holy city where the Holy Qur’an was revealed in Arabic. The last Prophet (peace be upon him), who was born here, was an Arab. So, how can we have institutions here with non-Arabic names,” the governor said.
Prince Khaled emphasized the need to change non-Arabic names of institutions in all cities and towns in the province. He instructed municipalities and other relevant authorities to take immediate measures to change the non-Arabic names of institutions.
“Those who want to write foreign names may do so in small letters below the Arabic,” the prince said, adding that those who violate the instruction would be punished.
Prince Khaled made this comment while opening the third forum organized by the Literary and Cultural Club in Makkah.
He thanked the club for its efforts to promote culture in the holy city. “Culture will have a big role in Makkah’s development strategy for the next 10 years because it is the basis for building humans and it is one of the important articles of the strategy,” he added.
