Fergie has branched out to encompass a variety of creative niches. She is a renowned singer-songwriter, rapper, fashion designer and actress. Now add fragrance creator to that list. With her latest debut, [Outspoken], a joint venture with the Avon, Fergie is taking her bold personality and packaging it in a beautiful blue bottle for the enjoyment of confident women around the world. Now women can feel attractive, sexy and alluring with a bit of Fergalicious spice.
“I have shared my music with the world and am excited to now be able to share a different part of who I am through my fragrance,” states Fergie. Arab News was able to get the songstress to talk about her latest project and share her secrets on being confident.
Fergie seems to have created a fragrance for the woman who is much like the entertainer herself. “[Outspoken] is for the woman who needs no introduction. She is fearless, true to herself and her beliefs,” explains Fergie. “She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it or speak her mind. The scent is bold with a raw, sexy edge that will shock you!”
Fergie’s first memories of Avon are from her early childhood. Her grandmother was an “Avon Lady,” and sold the cosmetics in their neighborhood.
“I can remember her having little parties with her friends and showing them all of the beautiful makeup pieces,” she recalls. “When I was younger I even asked my grandmother to leave me her makeup in her will!”
Fergie’s love of all things beautiful has continued throughout her adult life, from her hunky actor husband Josh Duhamel, to her splurges on lingerie. Now, a famous pop singer, she is able to collaborate with the cosmetic and fragrance company that incited it all.
“I am so excited and proud to partner with Avon,” reveals Fergie. “Avon’s ongoing dedication to women is unmatched.”
Avon, the company for women, is known to have initiatives that raise awareness about important health-related and social issues, such as breast cancer and domestic violence. “Avon is more than a beauty brand — it is a company that is dedicated to empowering women,” says Fergie. “It is a company that has a sense of responsibility and a higher good embedded into its existence.”
The partnership is an organic one for Fergie, who was fully involved in the creative process. With Avon’s creative team flying into London, where she was filming “Nine,” the singer/actress was able to test concepts with fragrance experts.
“This is the first fragrance project I’ve been involved with and I’ve learned so much about how it all comes together — it’s been an incredible opportunity to work with the experts at Avon,” says Fergie.
“It is such a creative process and has allowed me to tap into my creative side in an entirely different way. One thing that remains the same is that I want the fragrance, like my music, to have a story to it and have real meaning and personality.”
She also designed the bottle for the scent. “I actually found inspiration for the bottle cap design when I was getting dressed for my wedding to Josh. There was a crystal decanter in the bridal suite and I knew I wanted the cap to look like that. I was so excited about the design I had my team send me sketches while I was on my honeymoon!” confesses the newlywed. “Outspoken is sort of a “Rock n Roll Boudoir” which is very similar to my personal closet at home.”
Fergie admits to being drawn to scents such as iced berries, the smell of fresh leather, “like a new jacket or the inside of a new car,” and the tuberose.
“The mistress of the night,” she explains. “It blooms at night, and is closed during the day.”
The performer wanted to create something most women could enjoy.
“Outspoken is a fresh, modern scent that will make the women who wear it feel confident and not afraid to be noticed,” promises Fergie. And with one spray, you can already begin to feel more confident. In the words of the Dutchess’ herself: Glamorous, oh the flossy, flossy.
