Covering an area of two-million- square meters in the desert terrain in the west of the Riyadh city paral- lel to the Riyadh-Jeddah Expressway, the new garden will be one of the largest in the world. Plants, trees and creatures will be brought from different parts of the world. Stored
rainwater and recycled water will be used for irrigation purposes.
Undersecretary of Riyadh Municipality for Services Ibrahim Al-Dajeen said: “The King Abdullah Gardens is a gift from the people to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah on the occasion of the Baia (declaration of allegiance) on the day he ascended the throne.”
Al-Dajeen said the municipality provided the required land for the garden at a location where people
can easily reach. He added that the first stage of leveling and prepara- tion of ground has nearly complet- ed, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday. The garden will depict various stages in the development of the plant kingdom.
The garden will have six major divisions — botanical gardens, wadi garden representing local flora and fauna, sand and rock formations, science gardens, water garden, international garden and natural garden.
