“It is wrong to assume that travel agencies will lose their importance and may go out of business with growing use of the Internet for air bookings. The public will still need agencies to make their travel and holiday plans,” K.V. Abdul Nazar, chairman and managing director of Akbar Travels of India Pvt. Ltd., said. “Today, ours is a major IATA agency in India with a record turnover of $666.7 million. It has also created a record as the largest ticket issuers in Southeast Asia. The agency, with its sister concern Akbar Holidays, offers holiday, business and medical packages,” N.P. Rajendran, manager-finance of the agency, said. An investment of SR5 million has gone into the new office here,” he added. The agency is in business for the last 32 years during which it has established 54 IATA branches and 25 satellite offices. It has 12 offices in the UAE and one in Muscat. It has plans to open 15 offices across the Kingdom.
