JEDDAH: The General Audit Bureau is currently investigating that how Jeddah municipality spent funds allocated by the government for combating dengue fever, Al-Madinah daily reported on Friday.
“It is the duty of the General Audit Bureau to verify whether the financial allocations for a project have been spent for the purpose for which the government allocated originally. This is what the bureau does when it notices excessive spending or diversion of funds to some other purpose,” an official source at the bureau said. “This is what the bureau suspects in the case of the project of fighting dengue fever in Jeddah for which the government allocated SR140 million. The municipal budget allocated SR279 million for the same purpose.
Such discrepancies with the government budget allocations were found in many subheads of the project. They include increasing the expenditure of the studies and supervision of dengue-combat projects from SR12 million to SR153 million, an 800 percent increase.
