TAIF: The Administrative Court in Makkah province yesterday issued its verdict on a dispute between the Ministry of Education and some teachers who demanded promotions in accordance with their qualifications.
The court instructed the ministry to appoint teachers holding master’s degrees in the sixth grade, those having education degrees in the fifth grade and those without education degrees in the fourth grade, an informed source told Arab News.
The move comes after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah issued directives to upgrade the situation of 204,054 teachers in accordance with their qualifications. The teachers were also demanding the ministry pay them the difference in their salaries for the period they served in lower grades.
The lawyer representing the teachers argued that they deserved the difference but the ministry’s lawyer refuted this invoking Article B/18 of Civil Service Law. The court will look into this matter in a sitting scheduled for Oct. 24.
