Saudi, Ukraine to Sign Deals

RIYADH, 9 April 2008 — A series of agreements will be signed today between Saudi Arabia and Ukraine during the Third Saudi-Ukraine Intergovernmental Meeting which began here yesterday.

Minister of Transport Dr. Jabarah Al-Seraisry headed the Saudi team, while the Ukrainian team was headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov at the meeting held at the Royal Conference Palace here. The visiting team comprised 80 delegates hailing from government and private sectors.

Speaking to Arab News, Oleg Todchuk , head of the Trade and Economic Mission at the Ukrainian Embassy, said that a set of agreements are expected to be signed today soon after the deliberations are over between the two parties. The participants in the discussion have been divided into various groups so that details of the proposed agreements could be studied minutely before they are inked, he added. Besides intergovernmental agreements, a private sector agreement between Abdul Latiff Al-Eisa and an Ukranian Company will be signed for the supply of Kraz trucks that are manufactured in Ukraine.

Stressing his country’s capability to supply passenger aircraft from Antonov Company to the Kingdom, he said that his country was interested in participating in the mega developments that are taking place in the Kingdom. He said his country was keen on transferring its technological expertise to the Kingdom.

Todchuk said that Ukraine will stress the importance of having a Saudi embassy in Kiev which would strengthen bilateral relations. Ukraine embassy was established in the Kingdom in 1996 and ever since the Saudi mission in Moscow has been accredited to Ukraine. There are some 250 Saudi students mostly studying medicine and engineering in various universities and colleges in Kiev.”

Ukrainian exports to Saudi Arabia are estimated at $650 million.
