YANBU, 11 January 2008 — A Filipino worker recently admitted in court to murdering a fellow national in an apartment in Yanbu. The man, only known as Rojilo, tried to escape the crime scene shortly after the murder and was arrested six kilometers away.

Police investigations revealed that the man had started a new job three weeks ago and began building strong relations with his boss, much to the disapproval of colleagues — including the murder victim, known as Marlon.

Rojilo was also alleged to have been interested in converting to Islam, something that was allegedly met with disapproval by his coworkers.

During a drinking bout at an apartment that the men shared, it is alleged that Marlon hit Rojilo over the head causing Rojilo to stab his victim five times, three times in the back, once in the stomach and once in the heart.

A third man, Muhammad Gasim, tried to stop the attack and was stabbed once in the stomach and once in the back.

Rojilo then fled the apartment and police and an ambulance were called. Other workers living there are said to have tried hiding the bottles of alcohol.

Marlon was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured man was taken to a local hospital and was put in intensive care.

Rojilo was later found exhausted and bleeding. He admitted to the murder and said that the argument took place during a drinking bout.
